This is an extension of #153, so that we can track usptream progress.

Someone should test Karmic and see whether ~/.xsession-errors is still broken, and if so, please update the LP bug.

Upstream marked it as Incomplete for some reason, so the upstream bug report will be closed on Nov 1 unless something else happens. We should make sure that doesn't happen.

This is just a case of bug triagers coming off as more aggressive than they really are.

The guy marked it as Incomplete pending confirmation that the bug still exists on Karmic. If you can confirm that it does, you can just set the bug back to New.

It looks like GNOME solved this using its typical rusty-spoon technique.

gdm 2.28 no longer displays a dialog if your login session lasts less than 10 seconds. It still appears to hard-code the ~/.xsession-errors path, though.

  • Status changed from new to closed
  • Resolution set to fixed

Upstream fixed this by moving to $XDG_CACHE_HOME/gdm/session.log.

Of course, we're not using gdm anymore, but...
