Apparently Update Manager pops up during the Debathena install?

Description
If you install Lucid from CD and then install-debathena.sh, apparently Update Manager will automatically pop up in the middle of the install because we previously did an apt-get update, which alerted it, even though we're currently in the middle of an aptitude install and have the lock.
a) This is an Update Manager bug. We have the lock. Go away.
b) Can we on our end suppress Update Manager until the install is done?
c) Should we not aptitude full-upgrade in the installer? I'm of two minds about this -- it's kind of not our role, but it's almost certainly what you want, especially if you just installed a computer, and there is an advanced-install option. Presumably we wouldn't pass -y, and so you'd have a prompt that you could say "n" to, which makes me feel more okay about it.
